Bureau d´études is the work of artists Léonore Bonaccini and Xavier Fourt. They make use of artistic competence to investigate, visualize, and map contemporary political, social, and economic systems in order to reveal the invisible. The Bureau utilizes the possibilities offered by artistic cartographies to create murals, prints, and books that contextualize seemingly separate elements within new frameworks that move from the local to the global and back again. They have mapped global media conglomerates, agro-industrial systems, transnational financial flows, and other systems with significant local impact. These visualizations of interests and relations articulate existing structures that would otherwise remain concealed and unknown. Their maps allow people to inform, reposition, and empower themselves, cross-pollinating between artistic cartography, cognitive mapping, economic geography, and the analysis of power networks. The presented map titled World Government was featured in Atlas of Agendas – Mapping the Power, Mapping the Commons (2015). This large-size hardcover book, panoramic in scope, and both profound and accessible, is an atlas for an emancipatory new citizenship in postartistic times.
